In the President role, Roland Fasel will be responsible for maintaining operational excellence and brand integrity across Capella Hotels and Resorts and Patina Hotels & Resorts, while also spearheading the group’s international development agenda. The company has outlined a clear objective to expand aggressively across key markets, with a stated goal to double the current portfolio by 2030. The move aligns with a brand-building phase as Capella Hotels and Resorts prepares for landmark openings in the Middle East and Europe, where raising awareness and translating brand standards into new regions will be critical.

Fasel’s career profile is closely tied to some of the most recognizable names in high-end hospitality. Most recently, he served as Group Chief Operating Officer at Maybourne Hotel Group, overseeing a portfolio that includes Claridge’s, The Connaught, The Berkeley, The Maybourne Beverly Hills, and The Maybourne Riviera. Prior to that, he spent six years as Chief Operating Officer at Aman Resorts from 2017 to 2023, managing global operations during a period of significant growth that included the openings of Amanyangyun, Aman Kyoto, and Aman New York.

Earlier roles underline his track record in repositioning and performance turnaround. As general manager of Badrutt’s Palace in St. Moritz, he led an $80 million repositioning that returned the hotel to profitability and market leadership. He also played a central role in the launch of the Dorchester Collection, serving nine years as General Manager of The Dorchester and acting as Regional Director UK overseeing Coworth Park and 45 Park Lane. His career began with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in the United States, followed by progressive leadership roles across Southeast Asia that culminated in his first general manager assignment with Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts.

For Capella Hotel Group, the appointment is designed to pair strategic leadership with hands-on operating depth at a moment of accelerated development. The group currently has 12 hotels, including six Forbes Five-Star properties, and is actively preparing for new openings beyond its existing footprint. Evan Kwee has positioned the leadership change as a catalyst for reinforcing competitive advantage while deepening the internal culture that underpins service delivery. With Capella Hotels and Resorts recognized as Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Hotel Brand for three consecutive years from 2023 to 2025, the group is signaling that maintaining brand consistency while scaling into new markets will be a central priority under Roland Fasel’s presidency.
