Capella Hotels and Resorts to Open First European Property in Florence by 2027
Capella Hotels and Resorts has announced its long-awaited entry into Europe with the planned opening of Capella Florence in 2027. Situated in the historical center of Florence, just steps from the Piazza della Libertà and the Duomo, the new property will bring the brand’s signature crafted luxury to a city renowned for its art, spirituality, and cultural heritage. The transformation of the historic Via San Gallo complex signals Capella’s continued focus on curating immersive experiences in iconic destinations.
The site, which dates back to the 12th century, has housed the former convents of Sant'Agata, San Clemente, and Santa Lucia di Camporeggi, and has served multiple roles throughout history, including as a military hospital and home to artists like Arcangela Paladini. In reimagining this space, the project brings together two renowned Italian architectural studios, RPA and De Vita & Schulze, with refined interior design by the French design house Liaigre. The result will be a seamless blend of heritage and modernity across an 89-key luxury property.
Capella Florence will include 33 suites and 56 guestrooms, along with 10 private residences with their own dedicated entrance. Guests will enjoy two distinctive dining venues—one spotlighting Tuscan cuisine, the other a refined sushi omakase experience—as well as a rooftop bar, subterranean wine speakeasy, and the brand’s hallmark Living Room concept. The standalone Clubhouse will house a 600-square-meter Capella Spa, complete with hydro pool, fitness center, and a wellness café. A unique indoor amphitheatre will honor the site’s artistic legacy, offering space for cultural programming in line with Capella’s curated hospitality philosophy.
This European debut builds on Capella’s success across Asia and the Pacific, underlining the brand’s commitment to expanding thoughtfully into culturally rich locations. With the opening of Capella Florence, the company aims to redefine luxury hospitality in Europe, celebrating centuries of Italian heritage through design, experience, and service excellence.
