Driftwood Hospitality takes over InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza
Driftwood Hospitality Management has assumed management of InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza, marking its first property in Kansas City and its third in Missouri. The move adds a prominent luxury hotel in one of the Midwest’s best-known urban districts to the company’s portfolio. Located in the historic Country Club Plaza area, the property reflects Driftwood’s continued focus on expanding in the Midwest and in high-profile city markets. The management transition is also intended to strengthen overall hotel performance while enhancing the guest experience.
The 371-room InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza is positioned as an established upscale address in one of the city’s most recognizable districts. According to the published report, the hotel offers guestrooms and suites with contemporary furnishings, private balconies and modern in-room amenities, while its meetings offer includes around 29,000 square feet of event space. The property also features views from its rooftop bar and restaurant, adding another layer to its appeal in both the leisure and events segments.
On the operational side, Driftwood Hospitality Management is planning a comprehensive management strategy aimed at elevating service and maximizing value for ownership. The hotel’s amenity mix gives the operator a strong platform to build on, including American Slang Modern Brasserie, a resort-style outdoor pool with sweeping city views, a 24-hour fitness centre and the Club InterContinental Lounge, which offers more personalised services and upgraded guest experiences. Together, these features reinforce the property’s standing in the competitive Kansas City hotel market.
The location remains one of the hotel’s strongest commercial advantages. Set near Country Club Plaza, the property offers access to 15 blocks of Spanish Mediterranean-inspired architecture, upscale retail, dining and cultural attractions. The wider district is also undergoing a $1.5 billion redevelopment, which adds further significance to Driftwood’s arrival at the property. In that context, taking over InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza gives the company a foothold in a landmark hotel tied to one of the city’s most closely watched mixed-use areas.
