Hotel Orielle brings a new identity to Savannah’s riverfront
The Bohemian Savannah Riverfront has entered a new chapter as Hotel Orielle, an Autograph Collection Hotel, introducing a refreshed identity to the 75-room property on Savannah's historic riverfront. Remaining part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, the hotel has been repositioned around a concept inspired by perspective, observation and a closer connection with the character of the city. The transformation includes new artwork, guest experiences and an updated culinary direction. At the same time, the property retains its role as a gathering place for both visitors and the local community.
The name Orielle draws inspiration from the three-panel oriel windows of the 19th century, architectural features designed to provide a broader view of the surrounding world. The concept has been incorporated into the hotel's identity as a metaphor for experiencing Savannah through a more thoughtful and personal perspective.
With 75 guestrooms, Hotel Orielle continues to emphasise its relationship with Savannah's architecture, history, art and natural surroundings. Rather than approaching the rebranding as a complete reinvention, the property has focused on refining the guest experience while preserving its established riverfront character.
New programming has been introduced throughout the hotel, from the lobby and guestrooms to the rooftop. Live music is intended to create moments of pause, while daily notes on the Savannah River and its tides provide guests with another connection to the location and its maritime environment.
Art plays a significant role in the refreshed identity. The hotel's new collection incorporates works in a variety of media designed to reflect both the riverfront setting and Savannah's creative character.
In the lobby, a three-panel mixed-media installation by Lillian Blades, a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, takes inspiration from the Lowcountry marsh landscape. It is complemented by an abstract floral painting by Katherine Sandoz, also associated with SCAD as both an alumna and former professor.
Additional works throughout the hotel include salon-style gallery installations and digital steampunk art. On the rooftop, a 33-foot custom mural incorporates elements of Savannah and its maritime history, further connecting the property's interiors and social spaces with the city.
One of the hotel's signature experiences takes place at Rocks on the Roof, described as the tallest rooftop venue along River Street. Each evening, brass spyglass binoculars are placed around the space at dusk, encouraging guests to observe the city, river and surrounding landscape as the sun sets.
The venue has also introduced The Orielle, a signature cocktail created for the hotel's new identity. Together with the nightly rooftop ritual, it forms part of a broader effort to create memorable experiences that encourage guests to engage more closely with Savannah.
The property's culinary programme is also entering a new phase under Johnny Salaverria, who has been appointed Executive Chef. Drawing on his Venezuelan background and professional experience shaped by Savannah's Southern culinary culture, Salaverria oversees both Rocks on the Roof and Coastal 15 Fish House.
At Coastal 15, a new menu places seafood at the centre of the dining experience while maintaining the approachable character of a Southern fish house. Offerings include the Tackle Box, featuring a selection of raw seafood, terrines and dips, along with a shareable Seafood Board.
The transition to Hotel Orielle is intended to preserve the fundamental character of the former Bohemian Savannah Riverfront while giving the property a more clearly defined identity. Future enhancements will continue to focus on programming connected with Savannah, including collaborations with local artists and cultural organisations.
Further experiences are expected to build on the hotel's riverfront location, artistic character and rooftop programming. Through these additions, Hotel Orielle, Autograph Collection is positioning itself as a property where accommodation, art, food and local culture are closely connected with the experience of exploring Savannah.
