IHCL signs Ginger hotel in Sindhudurg
Indian Hotels Company Limited has announced the signing of Ginger Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, further expanding the group’s presence along India’s western coast. The project will be a conversion of an existing standalone hotel, with plans to expand the property’s inventory to 50 keys. The signing strengthens the reach of Ginger, IHCL’s lean luxe brand, in a destination increasingly associated with coastal leisure, short-stay travel and regional tourism growth. It also reinforces Sindhudurg’s position as one of the emerging hospitality markets on the Konkan coast.
The future Ginger Sindhudurg will be located in a destination known for its scenic coastline, heritage landmarks and growing visitor appeal. Sindhudurg’s accessibility from key feeder markets such as Mumbai, Pune and Goa gives it strong potential for domestic leisure and short-break demand. Improving connectivity and rising visitor footfall are helping the region move from a quieter coastal area into a more visible tourism destination.
The hotel will feature 50 rooms once its planned expansion is complete. This scale positions the property as a practical base for travellers exploring the wider Sindhudurg region. As a Ginger-branded hotel, it is expected to combine comfort, efficient design and value-led hospitality for guests seeking a contemporary stay experience.
Food and beverage will be part of the hotel’s core offer. The property will include an all-day dining restaurant and a bar, allowing it to serve both in-house guests and local demand. This gives the hotel flexibility for leisure travellers, business visitors and small social groups.
Recreation will also be included in the property’s facilities. Guests will have access to a swimming pool and a fully equipped gym, supporting both relaxation and wellness during their stay. These amenities are particularly relevant in a leisure destination where guests may combine sightseeing, beach visits and downtime at the hotel.
Meetings and events will form another important part of the project. Ginger Sindhudurg will offer dedicated meeting rooms and a banquet hall, making the hotel suitable for corporate gatherings, conferences and social celebrations. This gives the property a broader role in the local market beyond transient leisure accommodation.
The signing has been made in partnership with Mrs. Priyanka Sawant, Director of Yash Inn And Resorts Private Limited. The owning company brings nearly two decades of hospitality experience across Maharashtra’s Konkan region. Its work has focused on developing and managing hospitality ventures that reflect the natural beauty, local culture and tourism potential of the coast.
The project is also supported by Mr. Aditya Sawant, Director of Yash Inn And Resorts Private Limited, who brings international hospitality training and local market understanding to the company’s development approach. Together, the ownership team is positioned to blend regional knowledge with professional hospitality practices as Sindhudurg’s tourism appeal grows.
The destination itself gives the hotel a strong cultural and leisure context. Sindhudurg is known for landmarks such as Sindhudurg Fort, Sawantwadi Palace, Moti Talav Lake and the beaches of Tarkarli. These attractions help create a varied travel experience built around heritage, nature, coastline and local culture.
For IHCL, the signing reflects a strategy of expanding into high-potential destinations where tourism growth is supported by better access and changing travel behaviour. Sindhudurg fits this profile because it can attract travellers from nearby urban centres while offering a more relaxed coastal experience. The destination’s position between Maharashtra and Goa also strengthens its long-term hospitality potential.
The addition of Ginger Sindhudurg will take IHCL’s portfolio in Maharashtra to 66 hotels, including 34 under development. This makes the state one of the group’s most important markets in India. The signing also demonstrates how IHCL is using different brands in its portfolio to address varied demand across metro, leisure, pilgrimage, business and emerging regional destinations.
Ginger plays a specific role within this strategy. The brand is designed around the lean luxe segment, offering a modern and efficient hotel experience with essential comfort, smart design and practical amenities. In destinations such as Sindhudurg, this positioning can appeal to travellers who want reliability and brand assurance without a traditional luxury resort format.
The project also supports the broader development of coastal tourism in Maharashtra. Branded hotels can help destinations attract new traveller segments, improve service standards and support local economic activity. In Sindhudurg, a professionally managed hotel with rooms, dining, wellness and event facilities can contribute to both tourism growth and local employment.
With 50 planned keys, an all-day dining restaurant, bar, swimming pool, gym, meeting rooms and banquet hall, Ginger Sindhudurg is positioned as a contemporary hospitality addition to Maharashtra’s Konkan coast. The signing strengthens IHCL’s regional portfolio while bringing the Ginger brand to a destination with growing leisure, heritage and short-stay travel potential.
