Kimpton Ashbel New York - Park Avenue has opened at 70 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, bringing a boutique luxury hotel experience to a reimagined 1928 Beaux-Arts landmark. Part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle portfolio, the hotel introduces 205 guestrooms, residential-style gathering spaces and a new neighbourhood café. Located steps from Grand Central Terminal and Bryant Park, the property brings fresh life to a historic building once constructed as the Doral Park Avenue Hotel. The opening also marks a meaningful return for Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants to an address where the brand was first introduced in New York City.

The debut of Kimpton Ashbel New York - Park Avenue adds a new design-forward hospitality address to one of Manhattan’s most storied corridors. Set along Park Avenue, the hotel is designed as a townhouse-inspired retreat rather than a conventional urban hotel. Its concept centres on the feeling of entering the home of a stylish New Yorker, with residential interiors, intimate public spaces and a calm atmosphere in the middle of the city.

The hotel’s 205 guestrooms include 14 family-friendly connecting rooms. Each room is designed with tailored interiors, soft palettes and generous proportions, creating a comfortable base for guests exploring or working in New York City. Many rooms offer views of Park Avenue and the Empire State Building, reinforcing the property’s connection to its Midtown setting.

Design plays a central role in the hotel’s identity. Led by Busta Studio, the interiors combine warm woods, soft tones, curated gold accents, playful colour and eclectic artwork. Custom furnishings, refined metal details and organic textures give the spaces a residential quality while respecting the building’s architectural history.

The original limestone-clad façade has been restored, preserving the hotel’s link to its Beaux-Arts past. Inside, the ground floor unfolds as a sequence of connected residential-style spaces, including a foyer, living room and family room. Oversized wood portals frame preserved architectural columns, original steps and historic windows, creating a transition between the building’s heritage and its contemporary use.

At the heart of Kimpton Ashbel New York - Park Avenue is the living room, designed as a welcoming gathering space with an open banquette and library atmosphere. A curated art programme from Soho Art Gallery brings commissioned mixed-media works into the hotel, while books from Assouline and Taschen add to the sense of refined residential living. The result is a public area intended for lingering, working, meeting and quiet retreat.

The hotel’s café concept, Park & Bel, extends the living room into a neighbourhood social space. Positioned to serve both guests and locals, it offers coffee, artisanal baked goods, seasonal fruit and hearty sandwiches in the morning, then shifts later in the day toward small plates for relaxed evening gatherings. A curated bar cart with premium cocktails, craft beer and fine wine adds another social layer to the guest experience.

Community and connection are also built into the property through signature Kimpton programming. The complimentary Kimpton Kickstart offers coffee and tea in the public space each morning, while the nightly Kimpton Social brings guests together over beer and wine. These rituals support the brand’s emphasis on unscripted encounters, conversation and a more human style of hospitality.

The announcement names Sofia L. Vandaele, Regional Director of Operations for Luxury & Lifestyle New York at IHG Hotels & Resorts, as a key figure associated with the opening. Her comments frame Kimpton Ashbel as a personal Midtown enclave for travellers who value belonging, serenity and a sense of knowing the city beyond its obvious landmarks.

The opening also sits within the broader global growth of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. The brand currently has 85 hotels welcoming guests worldwide, with 67 more hotels in its pipeline. As part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle portfolio, Kimpton Ashbel New York - Park Avenue strengthens the brand’s presence in boutique luxury hospitality, Midtown Manhattan hotels, residential design and experience-led urban travel.
