The former home of Nelson Mandela, located in the heart of Houghton in Johannesburg, has been opened as a luxury hotel on August 1st. Sanctuary Mandela is a nine-room, exclusive boutique hotel where the South African revolutionary and later president lived after his release from prison in 1990. It was here that he hosted dignitaries from around the world.

Sanctuary Mandela is surrounded by lush gardens and spaces filled with carefully curated exhibits that evoke memories of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Every corner of the hotel is designed to provide the perfect blend of tranquility, heritage, and mindful experiences.

In homage to Mandela's love for food, the hotel restaurant pays tribute to his favorite dishes, previously prepared by his longtime personal chef, Xoliswa Ndoyiya. For over 20 years, Xoliswa Ndoyiya was the personal and family chef of the man affectionately known as Madiba, from his presidency to retirement and until his passing.

The hotel offers a range of amenities, including a pool, a full-service bar and lounge, as well as several conference rooms.
