NYX Hotels opens first Scottish property in Edinburgh
NYX Hotels has opened its first Scottish property in Edinburgh, marking a new milestone for the lifestyle brand owned by Leonardo Hotels. The 125-room hotel has launched following a £60m investment and forms part of an expansion of the existing Leonardo Royal Hotel site. Located on Jeffrey Street, close to the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Waverley station, the hotel places guests in one of the city’s most central and culturally active districts. The opening has also created 60 jobs, strengthening the brand’s local presence in Scotland’s capital.
The launch represents NYX Hotels’ fifth property in the UK and Ireland. The brand already has a presence in destinations including London and Dublin, as well as European locations such as Berlin and Ibiza. Its arrival in Edinburgh extends that lifestyle hotel platform into Scotland for the first time.
The new hotel is positioned around the city’s reputation for art, music and culture. Edinburgh is one of the UK’s most recognisable visitor destinations, known for its historic streets, festivals, theatres, galleries and strong independent hospitality scene. By opening near the Royal Mile and Waverley station, NYX Hotel Edinburgh is located close to both heritage attractions and transport connections.
The property includes Clash Bar and Restaurant, an all-day dining venue designed to serve both hotel guests and local visitors. The venue adds a social element to the hotel’s offer, combining food, drinks and entertainment in keeping with the wider lifestyle positioning of the NYX brand. Weekly live DJ sessions will bring an additional evening energy to the property.
The hotel’s development required the transformation and expansion of an existing site. This makes the project more than a straightforward new opening, as it involved reshaping part of Leonardo Hotels’ established Edinburgh presence into a more distinctive lifestyle product. The result gives the company a stronger brand mix in the city.
For Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland, the project is also significant because it marks the group’s fifth hotel in Edinburgh. This underlines the importance of the Scottish capital within the company’s UK portfolio. The city continues to attract strong leisure and business demand, supported by events, tourism, education, culture and corporate travel.
The new NYX Hotel Edinburgh adds a more expressive brand personality to that local portfolio. NYX Hotels is built around design, social spaces and a sense of urban culture, making it well suited to a destination where visitors often seek more than traditional accommodation. The brand’s emphasis on vibrancy and local spirit aligns closely with Edinburgh’s creative identity.
The opening also strengthens Edinburgh’s wider lifestyle hotel market. As travellers increasingly look for hotels with personality, atmosphere and a stronger connection to place, brands such as NYX can appeal to guests who want a more energetic stay experience. The combination of location, dining, music and design gives the property a clear role within that segment.
With 125 rooms, a central Jeffrey Street location, Clash Bar and Restaurant, weekly live DJ sessions and the backing of Leonardo Hotels, NYX Hotel Edinburgh brings a new lifestyle hospitality option to the Scottish capital. The £60m investment marks an important expansion for the brand and introduces its first Scottish property in one of the UK’s most dynamic hotel markets.
