Premier Inn Gains Approval for New 218-Room Hotel at Edinburgh Airport
Whitbread, the parent company of Premier Inn, has secured approval in principle from Edinburgh City Council to develop a 218-room hotel at Edinburgh Airport, with the opening planned for 2028. The project, designed in partnership with Riverstone Hotels, represents one of three new Premier Inns in the pipeline for the city, delivering more than 500 additional rooms overall.
Located on Eastfield Road, just a 10-minute walk from the terminal, the five-storey L-shaped property will feature the brand’s latest room formats, including Premier Plus options, as well as a ground-floor ‘The Social’ space. The hotel will be fully powered by renewable electricity and will offer 100 guest parking spaces. The project underscores Whitbread’s commitment to sustainability while responding to rising travel demand, with Edinburgh Airport handling over 16 million passengers annually to 155 destinations.
The development is expected to complement Whitbread’s two existing Premier Inns serving the airport, strengthening the company’s footprint in Edinburgh, where it already operates 14 hotels. The group estimates its guests contribute more than £32 million annually in outside spending, supporting the city’s visitor economy.
Jill Anderson, Acquisition Manager at Whitbread, noted that Edinburgh Airport is in “growth mode”, with passenger numbers and direct destinations steadily increasing. She added that the project’s proximity to the terminal makes it a highly convenient choice for travellers, reinforcing the company’s strategy to invest in key high-demand locations.
With over 850 hotels and 85,000 rooms across the UK and Ireland, Whitbread continues to expand its network, aiming to reach 125,000 rooms across its core markets.
