Radisson Hotel Group has signed Radisson Resort Kalimpong, marking the arrival of the first international branded resort in Kalimpong and strengthening the group’s leisure portfolio in eastern India. The move reflects the company’s strategy of expanding into high-potential, underpenetrated destinations with long-term tourism appeal. Set in the Eastern Himalayas, the new resort is expected to tap into rising demand for premium leisure travel, weekend escapes and nature-led stays. The signing also reinforces Radisson Hotel Group’s growing focus on secondary and high-barrier markets in the region.

For Radisson Hotel Group, Kalimpong represents more than a scenic hill destination. The town is being positioned as an emerging premium leisure destination, supported by its cool climate, colonial-era character and views of the Kanchenjunga range. It also benefits from proximity to established tourism circuits in the wider region, giving the project relevance beyond a purely local market. In practical terms, the signing allows the group to enter a destination that has so far lacked a globally recognised hospitality brand while building further scale in Eastern India. Nikhil Sharma framed the deal as part of the group’s first-mover strategy in emerging markets, while Davashish Srivastava linked the resort to Radisson’s ambition to become a leading hospitality chain in eastern and northeastern states of India.

The upcoming Radisson Resort Kalimpong is designed as a full-service resort product with strong appeal across several demand segments. The property will feature 100 guest rooms, including 90 standard rooms and 10 suites, all positioned to take advantage of uninterrupted mountain views. Dining will include an all-day restaurant and a tea lounge, while the meetings offer will cover a banquet hall, conference room, business lounge and multiple meeting rooms. Additional facilities such as a spa, fitness center and infinity swimming pool are intended to create a well-rounded hospitality experience that can serve leisure travellers, destination weddings, corporate retreats and social gatherings in equal measure.

Location is another major strength of the project. The resort will sit around 0.5 kilometres from a major state highway, giving it road access to key towns across West Bengal and Sikkim, while Siliguri, the region’s main rail and air gateway, lies 67 kilometres away. That combination of scenic setting and practical connectivity is expected to help the property attract demand despite the seasonality that often shapes hill destinations. The project is being developed with Gajbadan Tradewing Private Limited, and Rohit Gupta said the partnership is intended to raise the tourism profile of Kalimpong by introducing world-class service and facilities to a destination long admired for its natural beauty. Altogether, the signing positions Radisson Resort Kalimpong as a landmark project that blends international hospitality standards with the distinctive identity of the Eastern Himalayas.
