Sonesta Expands Alliance with AKEN Hotels & Resorts to Colombia
Sonesta International Hotels Corporation has announced the expansion of its strategic alliance with AKEN Hotels & Resorts, welcoming the Bio Habitat Hotel, AKEN SOUL Collection, in Armenia, Quindío, Colombia, into its global distribution network. This marks the first AKEN property in Colombia to join the Sonesta family and strengthens the brand’s presence in Latin America following the addition of La Urumpta Hotel & Spa, AKEN MIND, and Böden Hotel & Spa, AKEN SOUL, in Argentina earlier this year.
Located amid more than 16,000 square meters of native forest, Bio Habitat Hotel sits at one of the highest vantage points in the Quindío region, offering breathtaking views of the valley below. The property lies within easy reach of El Edén International Airport and Matecaña International Airport, and close to popular Andean destinations such as Salento, Filandia, and the Cocora Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The boutique eco-luxury retreat features 24 independent guest rooms, a restaurant-bar, wellness spa, sauna, Turkish bath, and organic gardens, alongside nature trails that weave through the surrounding forest. Reflecting AKEN’s “Wellness Lifestyle” and “Conscious Luxury” ethos, the hotel emphasizes sustainability, mindful living, and authentic connections with the local environment.
According to Keith Pierce, Sonesta’s Executive Vice President and President of Franchise & Development, the partnership continues to expand opportunities for both brands: “With the inclusion of Bio Habitat Hotel, we’re bringing AKEN’s distinct experiences to Sonesta guests and Travel Pass members in Argentina and Colombia, reinforcing our growth trajectory across Latin America.”
AKEN’s co-founders Luis Gallotti and Lisandro León Liguori described the collaboration as a pivotal moment in their global expansion, underscoring their mission to deliver bespoke, design-driven, and wellness-oriented hospitality that aligns with local culture and nature.
Guests of Bio Habitat Hotel will now enjoy access to Sonesta Travel Pass, the company’s global loyalty program, allowing members to earn and redeem points, access exclusive rates, and enjoy benefits across nearly 1,100 properties worldwide.
With this addition, Sonesta now counts eight hotels in Colombia, continuing its strategic expansion across Latin America’s emerging travel destinations.
