Sonesta Expands Franchise Footprint with 31 New Agreements in H1 2025
Sonesta International Hotels Corporation, the 8th largest hotel company in the United States, has announced the execution of 31 new franchise agreements in the first half of 2025, adding more than 3,000 keys to its global development pipeline. This milestone reinforces Sonesta's aggressive expansion strategy and positions it as a top choice among hotel owners seeking adaptable, brand-diverse partnerships in a complex market environment.
Despite economic and geopolitical uncertainties early in the year, Sonesta continued to gain momentum with the support of its flexible franchise model and a reputation for owner-first operations. According to Keith Pierce, Executive Vice President and President of Franchise & Development at Sonesta, the growth reflects “sustained demand across Sonesta’s diverse portfolio,” demonstrating the appeal of its multi-segment offering that spans upper-upscale, lifestyle, upscale, midscale, extended-stay, and economy brands.
Supporting this surge in development, Brian Quinn, Sonesta’s Chief Development Officer, emphasized that the company’s tailored brand offerings and developer-friendly standards are key drivers behind its pipeline growth and increasing appeal to hotel investors worldwide.
In addition to the 31 franchise agreements, 10 new hotels were opened in the first half of 2025, collectively adding nearly 1,000 rooms to Sonesta’s portfolio. These openings include:
-

-
Signature Inn Berkeley – Berkeley, CA
-
Americas Best Value Inn Donaldsonville – Donaldsonville, LA

Sonesta’s franchise success is built on the platform launched by Sonesta RL Hotels Franchising Inc. in late 2021, which introduced four core brand concepts with comprehensive operational and support services. The company continued innovating in 2023, launching The James, Sonesta Essential Hotels, and soft brands Classico Collection by Sonesta and MOD Collection by Sonesta. In 2024, it further expanded its reach by applying the “by Sonesta” endorsement to the Red Lion brand, showcasing its strategic focus on cohesive brand architecture.
Today, Sonesta’s portfolio comprises 13 distinct brands, giving owners unmatched flexibility to align their assets with consumer trends and market demands. Additionally, guests of all Sonesta locations benefit from the Sonesta Travel Pass loyalty program, which offers rewards and exclusive benefits, enhancing guest retention and value across the network.
