Sonesta Expands into Latin America with First Properties Through AKEN Alliance
Sonesta International Hotels Corporation has taken a major step in its Latin American growth strategy with the addition of two AKEN Hotels & Resorts properties in Argentina. The move marks the first phase of a strategic alliance between the two companies, expanding Sonesta’s portfolio in a core regional market.
Effective September 2, 2025, La Urumpta Hotel & Spa, AKEN MIND in Río Cuarto and Böden Hotel & Spa, AKEN SOUL in Villa General Belgrano have officially joined the Sonesta portfolio. La Urumpta offers 60 guest rooms, an expansive AKEN Spa & Wellness, and a restaurant blending local and international cuisine, conveniently located minutes from both the airport and city center. Böden Hotel & Spa features 70 rooms with private balconies, panoramic mountain views, a signature wellness center, and a full-service restaurant.
The alliance integrates these properties into Sonesta Travel Pass, the company’s global loyalty program with nearly 8 million members. Guests can now earn and redeem points, access exclusive member rates, and benefit from accelerated membership status at these new locations.
According to Keith Pierce, EVP and President of Franchise & Development at Sonesta, the collaboration with AKEN provides opportunities to deliver wellness- and mindfulness-focused stays while broadening the company’s reach in Latin America. Luis Gallotti and Lisandro León Liguori, co-founders and co-CEOs of AKEN Hotels & Resorts, emphasized that the partnership advances their vision of “Conscious Luxury” and sets a new benchmark in hospitality by combining Sonesta’s global presence with AKEN’s wellness-driven philosophy.
With this launch, Sonesta and AKEN begin a collaboration designed to redefine the guest experience in the region, bringing design, wellness, and loyalty benefits together under one strategy.
