The Cormorant at 55 South reveals its public spaces ahead of October opening
Silversea has unveiled the full set of public interiors for The Cormorant at 55 South, its new 150-room hotel in Puerto Williams, Chile. Set to welcome guests in October 2026, the property is being positioned as the operational and experiential cornerstone of the brand’s Antarctica Fly Cruise journeys. By combining a purpose-built hotel stay with streamlined connections deeper into the far south, Silversea aims to make Antarctica access more seamless without compromising the expectations of luxury expedition travel.
At its core, The Cormorant at 55 South is designed to act as a comfortable pause point before and after guests head to the ice. The concept is built around Patagonia’s raw landscape and culture, using warm materials, panoramic windows and a sense of calm that mirrors the vastness outside. Bert Hernandez framed the hotel as an extension of the onboard experience, with a focus on familiar comfort and highly personalized service, while still grounding the stay in the character of the region.
The hotel’s five signature public areas outline how that promise is being delivered. The Fireplace Lounge is conceived as a retreat that draws on the local symbolism of fire as a gathering point, pairing plush seating with fine wines and signature cocktails while framing sweeping views of the Patagonian scenery. Dining takes a distinctly regional approach at Latitude 55, a restaurant named for the hotel’s latitude near the 55th parallel south, where menus lean into Chilean flavors and Patagonia’s ingredients, shifting into a more communal, story-driven atmosphere in the evening.
For social energy, Bar Sur is positioned as the hotel’s day-to-night hub, serving teas and small bites during daylight hours before transitioning to curated wines and spirits later on. The programming leans into local discovery, including tastings that spotlight Patagonia’s winemaking heritage and guided experiences focused on Chilean pisco, presented as both a tasting and a hands-on cocktail masterclass. Completing the guest journey, Uncharted, the hotel’s boutique, is designed for both practical needs and meaningful souvenirs, offering expedition essentials alongside keepsakes crafted by Chilean artisans.
The accommodation strategy supports the same narrative. All 150 guest rooms are planned as restorative spaces that connect guests to their surroundings through forest views or water vistas over the Beagle Channel. Interiors emphasize warm wood tones and earthy elements, with handcrafted pieces from local makers incorporated to reinforce a sense of place. Operationally, the property is scheduled to run seasonally from October to March, with staff trained in The Silversea Way to maintain consistency in service standards.
As part of the broader Antarctica Fly Cruise flow, itineraries will include a hotel stay in Santiago, followed by a direct charter flight to Puerto Williams and a one-night stay at The Cormorant at 55 South before continuing to King George Island for embarkation. On the return leg, guests will stay overnight again at the hotel before flying back to Santiago. Beyond logistics, travelers will also be able to explore Puerto Williams through activities such as nature walks, hiking, kayaking and wildlife watching, adding another layer of destination immersion around the expedition itself.
