As part of an elite group of more than 300 historic hotels nationwide, The Royal Sonesta Chase Park Plaza joins the ranks of properties that have preserved their original architecture, historical character, and iconic ambiance. The property stands as a union of two landmarks: the Italian Renaissance-style Chase Hotel, built in 1922, and the Art Deco Park Plaza, completed in 1930, which were eventually joined to form a single grand hotel.

To qualify for inclusion in Historic Hotels of America, properties must be at least 50 years old and either listed or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, or recognized as National Historic Landmarks. The Chase Park Plaza easily meets and exceeds those criteria. Over the years, it has hosted over 17 U.S. Presidents, legendary performers such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Elvis Presley, and was the filming location for the iconic “Wrestling at the Chase” program, which ran for 24 years starting in 1959.

General Manager Amy Ruffner emphasized the deep personal and cultural connections that locals have with the hotel, calling it a symbol of St. Louis's rich heritage. The hotel's famous tagline, “The Chase is the place,” remains etched in the city’s collective memory.

Owned and operated by Sonesta International Hotels, the eighth largest hotel company in the U.S., The Royal Sonesta Chase Park Plaza today blends its historic elegance with modern luxury. The hotel features nearly 400 guest rooms, over 65,000 square feet of event space, a Mediterranean-style pool, fitness center, cinema, and three restaurants, ensuring it continues to attract a new generation of guests while honoring its storied past.
