Three Radisson Blu hotels in Norway achieve Verified Net Zero status
Radisson Hotel Group has expanded its portfolio of Verified Net Zero Hotels in Norway with three established Radisson Blu properties in Bergen, Trondheim and Tromsø. Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Bergen, Radisson Blu Royal Garden Hotel, Trondheim and Radisson Blu Hotel, Tromsø achieved the status on August 25, 2026, joining Radisson RED Oslo City Centre. Norway now has four Radisson hotels operating under the Verified Net Zero programme. The conversions demonstrate that large upper-upscale hotels with substantial meetings and events operations can transition to verified net zero operations while maintaining their existing scale and service offering.
Together, the three Radisson Blu hotels provide more than 900 guestrooms, 49 meeting and event spaces and capacity for more than 1,300 delegates. Their inclusion broadens the Verified Net Zero initiative beyond newer or smaller properties and applies the model to established hotels with significant conference and events businesses.
Radisson Blu Royal Garden Hotel, Trondheim is one of central Norway's established meetings venues. Located beside the Nidelven River in the city centre, the property offers 298 rooms and suites, 15 meeting rooms and event capacity for as many as 650 guests.
In Bergen, Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Bergen is situated next to Bryggen, the city's UNESCO World Heritage waterfront. The hotel features 342 rooms and 21 meeting and event spaces covering approximately 2,100 square metres, giving it a substantial role in Bergen's conference and events market.
The programme also extends into northern Norway through Radisson Blu Hotel, Tromsø. The property offers 269 rooms and 13 meeting rooms, together with Tromsø Hall, which can accommodate up to 650 delegates. The hall can be divided into three sections and configured for different types of conferences, meetings and banquets.
The three hotels follow a reduction-first approach to net zero operations. Emissions from energy use within Scopes 1 and 2 are eliminated through electrification and renewable energy, while operational Scope 3 emissions are reduced through changes across food and beverage, waste management, laundry, hotel amenities, procurement and wider operating practices.
Only emissions that cannot yet be eliminated are addressed through carbon removal certificates, which Radisson sources from regenerative agriculture projects in Europe. The company positions this as the final stage of the process rather than a substitute for direct emissions reductions.
Each participating property undergoes independent third-party verification by TÜV Rheinland, providing external confirmation of the hotel's net zero status. The verification covers not only energy-related emissions but also elements of the hotel's operational and supply chain footprint.
The programme has particular relevance for the meetings and events sector, where corporate buyers and event planners are increasingly incorporating sustainability into venue selection. By converting hotels with significant conference capacity, Radisson is seeking to demonstrate that lower-carbon operations can be implemented within established full-service properties without reducing their ability to host large business events.
The Norwegian expansion follows experience gained from existing Verified Net Zero properties in Oslo and Manchester. Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability & Security Officer at Radisson Hotel Group, has identified the performance of these hotels as an important foundation for extending the programme to additional operating properties.
All three newly verified hotels are also Green Key certified, adding another sustainability credential to their environmental positioning.
With four Verified Net Zero hotels now operating in Norway, the country has become an important testing ground for the next stage of Radisson Hotel Group's sustainability strategy. The company plans to introduce additional Verified Net Zero properties during 2026 as the model is extended to more existing hotels across Europe and other international markets.
The initiative forms part of Radisson Hotel Group's broader ambition to operate 100 Verified Net Zero Hotels by 2030. The conversion of major Radisson Blu properties in Bergen, Trondheim and Tromsø represents a significant step toward that objective, particularly by showing how established upper-upscale hotels with complex food and beverage, meetings and operational requirements can be incorporated into the programme.
