voco Bangkok surawong brings IHG’s fastest growing premium brand to Thailand
The opening of voco Bangkok Surawong marks the debut of IHG’s fastest growing premium brand in Thailand, adding a new, design led option in the heart of one of Bangkok’s most storied districts. Located along Surawong Road, the 244 room hotel sits at the crossroads of the city’s heritage streets, the business energy of Silom and Sathorn, and the retail core of Siam. With its blend of playful touches, local flavour and relaxed service, the property aims to deliver the brand promise of being upscale, familiar and “refreshingly different” for both international and domestic travellers. For IHG, the launch also reinforces the momentum of the voco hotels portfolio across Asia.
Refashioned from the former Tawana Hotel, voco Bangkok Surawong has been reimagined by award winning Thai architecture firm A49 and interior design studio P49 Deesign. Brutalist modernist bones are softened with natural light, preserved geometric forms and mid century inspired interiors that weave in Thai artistry and Surawong’s urban character. Guests are welcomed with a signature voco treat – in this case, a mango sticky rice cookie created by the hotel’s pastry chef – alongside swift, informal check in that sets the tone for an unstuffy stay.
The hotel’s 244 guestrooms and suites are designed for “me time”, with warm palettes, tactile finishes and details that underscore voco’s sustainability ethos. Pillows and duvets use fillings made from recycled materials, while bathrooms are stocked with bulk premium organic amenities from Antipodes, reducing single use plastics without compromising on experience. Large windows frame city views, and rooms are configured to work equally well for business trips, weekend breaks or longer stays in Bangkok.
Dining is anchored by three venues that showcase the brand’s social, voco life hallmarks. Tasca Sabio brings a spirited, Spanish inspired restaurant and bar concept to Surawong, built around bold Mediterranean flavours, small plates for sharing and lively sangria rituals. Deckles Smokehouse, the all day dining restaurant, positions itself as one of Bangkok’s few premium hotel smokehouses, combining slow smoking traditions with local spices and crafted cocktails. A third venue completes the line up, ensuring guests have options from casual bites to destination dining without leaving the property.
Leisure and events facilities are designed to compete strongly in the city’s mid scale meetings and lifestyle segment. A full lap pool set amid landscaped gardens on the fourth floor, a 24 hour fitness centre and an onsen spa cater to wellness focused guests. For corporate and social business, the hotel offers an elegant ballroom for up to 200 guests and four flexible meeting rooms equipped with contemporary AV, aimed at mid size conferences, launches and social celebrations. With Surawong’s reputation as a welcoming, characterful neighbourhood, the opening positions voco Bangkok Surawong as a stylish base that connects visitors to both the historic and modern sides of the Thai capital.
